I've got an 06' yfz w/ the cam mod, k&n intake w/out airbox, M4 full exhaust, and jetting done. I'm looking for extra ways to gain a few HP and after searching this site, I couldn't find much info about cdi's. What are some good brands, and what should I expect to see for power? Do you think they are worth the money?

The cheaper ones that don't allow ignition timing changes may be worth the money, but the Dyna ones are a little too spendy for most casual/sport riders. Unless you want to make your own ignition curves or have a little more engine work done I wouldn't invest in a Dyna or anything like one. I bought a Dyna and the biggest difference I noticed was the increased RPM range, I didn't hit the governer as fast. I can switch from the advanced ignition curve to the stock one and cannot tell a difference. You wont be gaining any noticable HP (granted there may be some) from a new CDI, mostly just better spark, better starting, & increased rev limit. It's very nice, especially after the cam mod, to have a higher rev limiter. I felt like I was always hitting it. Hope this helps.

That makes sense. I do notice hitting the rev limiter at times, especially when racing at the dunes. Do you know what rpm the stock rev limiter kicks in? Also, since I don't have the oil mod done yet, and I haven't even had my first top end rebuild done, could it be dangerous and asking for issues if I increase the rev limiter?
CMAT
I have read about a lot of people saying that they cant feel the difference in the programable dyna. I installed 2 yesterday and they made a big difference in our bikes. Curve 2 was good for a little low end, more mid and a lot more top end. Curve 1 was good for bottom end. If you switch from these to the stock curve you will definatly feel the difference, atleast everyone here could. 1 guy didnt think he could untill he put it back on the stock curve. Worth every penny!

The '06 YFZ has the oil mod from the factory, doens't it?? I don't have the oil mod done or a new top end on my '05 and haven't had any issue with my bike after putting on the CDI. The stock limiter kicks in at 10,500 rpm, I believe that the aftermarket ones kick in at 11,500 rpm.

Really? During what kind of riding did you notice the change the most? I just can't seem to feel it.

Ah, I just googled it and it seems they started it in '07. I haven't had any problems without the oil squirter, though. It's just one of those gamble situations, some people have problems, some don't. Next time I'm out riding I'm gonna play with the ignition curve adjustment more and really pay attention well to see if there is a change. Not that I don't believe CMAT, but I just want to be able to write more accurate reviews and be able to justify the damn price I paid for this thing :) I'll post back after I play with it more.
