Im in the works of building a machine called the armpumper. Haha sounds funny but i had this great idea pop in my head a couple weeks ago and im in the process of building this thing. To put it simpley it will have handlebars and it plugs into your wall, and i might make an air one too. Should be awesome. Not joking either haha. But to make do before i release this thing someday, hit the gym, or buy some dumb-bells. Do different variations of arm curls and forearm rolls. Also get hand strengthners, you know the springs with handles that you squeeze. Or tennis balls work great too. Do some shoulder exercises too with light wieght and plenty of reps. You will still get arm-pump but this will help you get past the fifth lap.

i dont get arm pump ive road without a precision and i dont think it makes a diff to me.. im an expert at quadcross i can ride with stock suspension to dont feel it. i dont feel any thing till imd one for the moto or practce and heart rate is down

curls and such will help everything ppls aid will but the main thing is work ur thumb actually and movement to ur hand lthat moves those muscles or what ever that go down ur arm. work a tennis ball or such.
Unlukky
Being nervus will cause arm pump quickly too. Ride relaxed and try to stay smooth. It all gets better with more seat time. Trust me. I used to be so nervous i couldnt even go a whole lap without my arms swelling up. And Baier aspirin will thin your blood reducing arm pump also.

Arm pump is caused from lactic acid in your stomach, so Tums 30 minutes before you ride will help some, but not cure it.

I install hardwood flooring and during the day I pick up and move 70lb cartons of hardwood and I the hammer about 5000 times a day. I have never got arm pump and i guess that is why???

Lactic acid is what causes all soreness after any phyisical strain on muscles. Cold showers and massages help releave the lactic acid in muscles, or " spread it out". When i was still playing baseball the trainers taught me this, they "Thumb" rub inbetween the muscles to relieve soreness after pitching, hurts like hell when they dig there thumb into my arm after pitching 7+ innings, but it really does help. So get a motohoe to rub you down after prac. or each heat. haha
davenportracing
thanks for the help i think it could be were i was nerves cause i was praticeing with pros there wasnt anyone from my class there plus they put a 50 foot table jump on the track right out of a hair pin turn about 20 feet but i think that could of been it cause i didnt even pratice jump it just about clear it ever time not good for those lowwer kits one guy found out . mind did good

how much those motohoes cost ? lol

haha, i wouldn't pay a dime for any of them. also i would recomend a latex suit when you mess with any of them. lol

hahahahaha thats funny as hell but true

I agree with the poster that said it improves with seat time. I rode nothing but trail (rocks, timbers, etc all over the place) with hair pins everywhere and decent stretches. stop and go with turning will kill your arms, but when you feel that you're to the point of no return or losing control, just slow down and keep pushing yourself. You'll gain muscle memory fairly quickly.

As for the guy who hits 5k nails a day? Yeah, that's why you never have arm pump - your arms are used to a lot more stress than riding a four wheeler wide open. ;) That or you just aren't riding hard enough.

I thought I seen on here someone talking about eating bananas help out? I don't know how true it is but hey, try that and some tums.
yfzpurgatory
Muscle-tech Hardcore or BCAA (basic compound amino acids) help as well to reduce lactic acid, plus you build lean muscle. =D Forgot to add that.

paint your fingernails mhihi.gif increases blood flow
florida boy
i dont know how painting you nails will help. tums 30 min before, lots of water after and some ice helps me. but time is the cure ride hard and just turn laps. you will see more and more time on the track before you get it.

i dont get arm pump...at all, lol, but i do alot of baitin, in the master way, jk lmao, i dont get arm pump but i ride alot and put in 20 minute practice motos along with races all the time! Another thing to try, kinda spendy, but its called "oxygen for energy" google it...
davenportracing
how does painjing your finger nails help
surfsd
haha i was crackin up when i saw "paint your fingernails" then laughed even harder when guys are saying, what? Just like in the movie, obviously you guys havent seen "Motocrossed" a Disney Movie. Actually part of it was filmed at Barona Oaks Raceway in San Diego. Long story short, guys racing nationals gets hurt and his twin sis says " i can race for you". she does and is good, disquised herself as him. one race forgot to take off her nailpolish, and she was telling guys it helps with arm pump, haha next race everyguy had there nails painted. Classic story for this thread.

Well thanks haha. I wasn't gonna say cause if they had to ask then there was no point

Eating bananas should help some, our coaches tell us to eat some the day of football games to help prevent cramps. Make sure you are hydrated before your race too, you can start that a couple days before hand. O yea being in good shape isnt going to hurt anything, and it also helps to aquire more motohoes smile.gif .

Another thing to consider is your lever position. Don't have them so high that you're reaching up for them.

Try loosening your grip on the bars. I would get serious arm pump on my GSXR (no bueno when draggin a knee at 85+) and that helped me out. I would check myself by rotating my elbows while holding on to the bars from my body outward occasionaly. (like your flapping wings) I picked this tip up from the book Twist of the Wrist. As crazy as it sounds it worked for me.

I started getting major arm pump last year racing xc and I searched everywhere to figure out how to eliminate it and I found out that I was drinking red bull and other energy drinks before races which got me rlly pumped up so I stopped drinking those and also started taking pain relievers such as tylenol which thins your blood for an eaiser flow. I also purchased Flexx bars which I love and I have no arm pump at all anymore.

water/asprins/tums/bananas/alot of seat time/motohoes=no arm pump
chadkrash382
aspirin will help, as it thins your blood. take on ethe morning or a race, or a days riding. also, A pure orange juice (not from concentrate) will be better than bananas. also, try mixing in some vanilla protein mix, and that will help with the recovery, so you will be ready for the next moto, or just ready to keep going...i will have to try the tums for myself
yfzracer045
i tryed this TUMS and ASPRINS and BANANAS

i took 2 tums 2 asprins and ate 2 bananas 30 mins beofre first moto. i have to say i ran more laps beofre arm pump creeped up and got my on the last lap but it wasnt like week before at practice i couldnt make a fist afterwards and my arms were sore for 4 days. now this past race weekend i rode more laps and am not half as sore as last weekend. before 2nd moto i ate a banana and 2 asprins again. i have to say something worked whether it was tums asprins or bananas
motoxnutrition
Breath. Alot of people breath alot shallower breathes when riding, if you remind yourself to take full breaths it will help. Drink water stay away from any drinks with sugar in them. Bananas and orange juice will help. Also our product does wonders for arm pump, fatigue, recovery etc. Check it out.

i agree with the more seat time less hurt thing. I ride everyweekend from april to november ( thats the warm season here in missouri lol) and i will not get arm pump once, the more i ride the less i hurt the next time. By the mid summer i can ride all day and not even feel it the next day. all because of seat time. your body has to get used to it. But during the cold winter when i dont ride as much but maybe once a month i feel like im gonna die the next day im so sore. listen to these guys. seat time is the key.

Im suprised no one has mentioned it but check your gloves. I was getting arm pump real bad after getting some new gloves, decided to ride without them and it made a huge difference, dont know why they made it worse but they did!! Think they may have been to tight?

Just something else for you to try and eliminate.
Yammy450 ..♪
Gloves to tight will cause more arm pump ..
Arm pump isn't a big friend of mine either and from reading through this site overall the things that are most known from helping are bannaners , water , tums , advil , stabalizer , steering stem , flexxbars , motoxnutritin , dont grip the bars so tight and make sure your gloves arn't to tight.. And ofcourse riding time , sounds like all those mixed together and it could just be the cure :o
