I seen some ported heads out there that have very ruff finish.. and i seen some heads out there that have a very smooth finish.. whats the difference? whats better in your opinion? and why do you do it that way?

i like to use an 120 grit for the finish, theres alot of theroys out there but this is what we have found to work the best with our setups. i could spend hours on why we do it this way.

what we have found is that fuel likes to ball up on a smooth surface and theres better mix with the finish we use on our heads. theres alot of research that went into our heads before we found what really works well. i dont just throw a port job together without knowing what the finish products is going to be. theres a plan of attack with every head we do depending on the style of racing and the bore of the build.

i seen a ds650 head that the kid said was ported.. this thing look like total dog w00ter. the edges were so ruff and jagged the was probably .030+ teeth or edges sticking up, probably cut your finger if you rubbed it right. he said i run it like this cuase i know what works and that threw my mind for a loop for sure.. what you think about that port style??

i have never done anything with the ds so i do not know what works with them. as for the yfz we like to leave a little sharpe edge on our trail heads and are full race heads are flat ceilings and a nice rounded floor. also seat cutting will help the all around port work as the seats are the most over looked part of a port job.
