tisk tisk...
the first year or two they had J arms instead of A arms.

The gearing, jetting, spindles, and upper arms were different on the 87-89.

haha, way to complicated.
heres a picture though

stupid ass design.
It was done for weight saving properties but when they found out they were too weak they went with the double a-arms.

Yea, that's what I plan on doing. and right now I want to get a banshee, but I can't cause I can't afford one and if I didn't like my YFZ450 so much for racing, then I'd just trade my YFZ450 for a banshee, but I just don't know how well a banshee would do indoors and outdoors on tracks. I know banshees are quick, but i know that the new 450 four strokes are better for the tracks and I know if I was to race a banshee up against a bunch of 450's, I'd get beat by all them, unless the rider just sucks and can't hit jumps worth a crap...but anyway, I want to get another banshee soon and I'd like to buy one this summer, but I don't think I'll ever be able to save up $3,000 to buy a nice used banshee, I mean it's not a lot, but with all the damn bills I have to pay right now, I don't think that will happen. I had a banshee once and it was the sweetest quad and fastest quad i rode, and I wish I still had a banshee today to ride, cause I'd go out and have a blast on it right now...Well I'm going to try to look forward to saving up enough money to buy a nice used banshee this summer. I'm just going to look for one that is stock with a few mods like nerf bars, pipes...etc and so one, not to many though cause I'd like to get a banshee and keep it close to stock so I can just buy the mods I want for it rather than selling parts...anyway, I'm going to get another banshee someday here, maybe this summer i fi can save up the money to buy one
I raced a Banshee in XC and rode MX and it sucked for both. Dont get me wrong I LOVED my banshee and there will never be another quad that can replace that wide open thrill it gave you but its just too outdated for todays sport quads. I got rid of mine for a yfz450 and even though I miss the banshee alot, the yfz has made it alot easier to compete.

Banshees are definately fun but I couldn't see racing one, other than drag racing them...lol
ditto, the only time it was any good was in the wide open stretches in xc but even then it took so long to get traction that the 4-strokes were too far ahead to make a move.

Dont trade your 450 for a banshee. I have both and love both of them for different reasons. no doubt the banshee is faster than the 450 in open pits and such, but for track and trails Ill take te 450 anyday. you can find a nice used banshee already modded at a good price. around here you can find a decent one for arond 2.
Thats how mine was. PITA on the track but it never failed to leave me with a smile at the dunes.

yea...I don't think I'm going to trade it now cause I like my 450 for racing, and I used to have a banshee, but I sold it cause the engine blew on me twice, and I never got to ride it at all cause when I rebuilt it and got it all fixed, then a month after having it, the engine blew again, so I was just spending a lot of money on it and not being able to ride it, but ever since I got my 450, I haven't had any engine problems, just with jetting to make it run good, but nothing major. Anyway, I'd like to get a banshee, but I'll wait and see what comes along later when I can get money to buy one. I'll get one someday.
There had to have been an outside factor to that story. I had the same issue w/ mine but Yamaha didnt put the top rings on the factory pistons and then I bought a crappy brand piston to replace them. Blew two sets of them and told them not to send me any more. Went to wiseco's and never had another issue with it again. After I bought my YFZ I let my banshee sit for two months and never touched it. Had a buyer call that wanted to look at it and it fired up on the second kick. The biggest reliability mod you can do for them is the 2 into one carb. Mine had 51 pony's w/ 32 ft lbs of torque and hit 102 mph on the dyno w/ stock gearing and 18 in rear tires. It was a superb bike, just outdated.
I know there is alot in my post but I just couldn't let it be. I miss her alot.
