I run them, they are great for bouncing off trees instead of getting your rear tires hung up. We have a lot of rocks in our Missour series so it helps out there alot.

I don't run them, keep smashing them and you can't put your feet down to push backwards if you have to.

I run nerfs....It helps with keeping untangled from other bikes mostly just at the start/1st lap. Some series require nerfs. However I do not like or run heel guards.

I like them for bouncing off of trees as well. They've saved my bacon once or twice in the mud when my foot slipped off the peg too. I run heel guards because i'm afraid of getting my foot sucked under the rear tire.

The funny thing with that is if you don't run heel guards and nerfs you make sure you keep your feet on the pegs, when you run nerfs you feet seem to go all over the place. When I switched back to stock pegs, I really noticed that.

Yeah I'll agree with that, but running nerfs allow me to shift my weight a lot better cause I have several places I can put my feet. It allows for better balance for me through the rock ladden courses, and off angle hill climbs.

I run them to bounce off trees, the XC races here in MO are tight. KcMoYFZ did you happen to run the OXC race in Mountain View MO this weekend?

Nope didn't get the chance, won't get a chance to run any of them. Did you like it? I'm not really to sure if I would really like to run it, I don't think the Miller's are going to do a good job running it. Did you run any of them when it was the Missouri Hare Scramble?? The group I race and ride with switched to the Iowa series and it is by far a better series and it's run better.

I will never ride a quad without nerfs and heel guards. It would've saved me 6 months of no riding, misery, losing my job, and surgery.

Most fun I have ever had at a race, I have been running the MHSC series for 3 years now and this OXC was much better than any MHSC race. You should give it a chance, they are really trying to please the riders buy doing different things. They have an announcer naming riders as they come through the checkpoint and they have added obstacles with multiple lanes near the checkpoint to give the fans something to watch and the rider a chance to make a pass. I hear there going to add other shorter but more challenging obstacles, such as a tire pit or log run to make passes on. They have a podium for the trophies presentations, and have a holeshot award for each class. We a 121 riders show for the first race in Mountain View, hopefully we can keep getting good turnouts.
I haven’t ever raced any Iowa races but hope to make a couple this year, I ve heard good things about it.

It's sounds alot better then I was going to give them credit for. I'd like to run a few of them but I can't headed over to the big sand box in April so not gonna happen. I'll have to run them when I get back.

I don't run nerfs but I do have heel guards. I was thinking about putting them on to try them until my buddy got a set. He gets hung up on tree stumps, rocks, etc. all the time. I guess they have their good points and bad points but for me the bad outweigh the good. Just my 2 cents.

It's a safety issue. IF you value your legs, then run the nerfs. If you don't care about broken legs then don't.
I can't tell you how many times they have saved my feet from hitting the ground over REALLY rough stuff going REALLY fast. It only takes one saved broken leg to be enough.
It is so rare to need to back up during a XC race. If I have a problem where I need to back up, I am already screwed.
For the no-nerf guys...why wear a helmet. I mean, you aren't suppose to fall off, just like you aren't suppose to put your foot down. If you race long enough, and go FAST enough, you will end up getting out of shape on the quad and plant a foot on the ground (if you don't have nerfs). When you do you WILL be screwed. Broken/twisted around the wrong way feet and ankles really suck bad.
I won't run a quad without them (nerfs)...or a kill switch, or helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, pants, shirt, chest protector, neck nut.
I have kids and do everything I can to stay safe, and set a good example for them to do the same.

I run nerfs with heel gaurds in desert XC. I also have to replace them often because they get thrashed.
They have saved me more than once at high speed. You get tired around mile 80 and you are flying off these jumps and hitting gnarly whoops.Your feet dont allways make it back to the peg tread.
I'm surprised at you guys who dont run them, but i know some fast guys who just dont like them.
Each to their own.

I run nerfs w/ heelguards. They saved me a few times, and on muddy/slick off cambers or tight sections you dont get caught up w/ tree's between the tires kinda just glides off of them

I have raced over 10 years without them and I am still alive, keep sharp pegs and you don't have a problem. Also most people that have a problem, their feet go back, not front, so regular nerfs don't help that, you need heel guards. They have + and - and I don't have a problem without them. They are also mud catchers which is another issue. Should dirt bikes have them if they are so important? Stock quads don't come with them, if they were so needed they would. You are probably better off with heel guards, which is what stock quads come with.

Im running pro armor nerfs with heel guards Havent had them in a big race yet but Ill find out how they handle the abuse next week for sure. Ill let you all know. I plan on them to fail so hopefully they will prove me wrong. I like them with all the room to put your foot on and move your weight. But i can ride real good without them. I run flat tracks too so they are nice to keep people out of between your wheels and into your leg. cuz i do a lot of bumpin on the flat tracks..lol.
