So I want to start racing, but I dont know where to start. Besides getting my quad set up for xc and everything, what do I have to do. So I have to sign up with anything? How do I know about the different districts? Are there any schedules? And btw i live in NY.

Go to harescrambleracing.com, NY has a pretty big series.

What do you have for gear?

I would recommend getting a pair of roll-off goggles and if you don't have one get a hydration pack. It will come in handy during those hot and dusty races during the summer.

Are there more specifics you are looking to have answered?

Im not really new to riding or anything like that. I pretty much know what gear and parts im going with. I just wanted to know like how to actually join the clubs or whatever to start racing. And If there are any, what to join. Like I know there AMA for MX, but do I have to join that too for XC, or do I just show up to the races? Where exactly do I sign up?

Here are a couple of series depending on where in NY you live.

If you live in Western NY try www.WNYOA.net

If you live in eastern NY try www.Atlanticgrandprix.com

Both are great series. The AGP series runs mostly in NJ/PA.

WNYOA runs mostly in Central NY.

Atlantic grand prix races are a lot closer to me. Is that a good series?

And do I need to sign up once I go to the race or should i sign up on the internet?

And I need to be signed up with the AMA right?

Where in NY are you from? Im looking to hit a few XC races next year as well...

I live in Monroe, NY. In orange county. You?

I race the AGP series, it is a very good series. Its only a cpl of years old so it is still small but growing fast.
The Jersey tracks are woods and sand, the PA tracks are tight rocky woods. The series also runs 2 of the GNCC's (Somerset and Unidilla).

Just show up to the race, you can get your ATVA membership there and sign up for your class.

I live in Wallkill, NY about 35 minutes from you.

Wilton, Saratoga county. Its like 40 min North of Albany. I basically switching from a MX bike to XC just so I can ride the woods and trails local to me. I got sick of hauling everything to the track. I would like to hit a few races, nothing to crazy.

we should all get together this season and go to a race or something.

Thats up to you and yourability. I have never raced but have ridden for years. I was going to try C class for the first race and move up from there.

For your first race you can alwasy race C and if you win and feel you can do better you can move right into B. Don't want to get ahead of yourself.

Blizzard....is that you!!!!?!??! I've seen your posts on this board as OCR for a long time. That's to funny.

To the OP...I also race the AGP series. If your already a member of the AMA you shouldn't have to sign up again. Either way you can show up, sign up, and race that day. Check out www.atlanticgrandprix.com for rules and more info. The 2008 schedule is NOT up yet. But you can check out pictures on there. YOu can also sign up on www.thequadbuilder.net , the official AGP racer's website. Plenty of pictures and videos to view for hours. There is a video from every race this last season. There are even videos of the last texas 12 hr race. see you next season!! Definetely start out in C-class. YOu can always move up the very next race if you feel you need to.
