Well it was june thirteenth and I was riding my minibike down a country road and there was this blind wide corner and some idiot in a blue ford torous wasn't paying attention to the road and went in to the wrong lane and I had to be there at that exact time, hit me with his left front of his vehicle when he was going 55mph and I was going about 40, and I'm just getting started. So then I flew 46ft in the air while cartwheeling, and I remember everything but hitting the ground. Then I woke up and I knew what happened but I was wondering why I couldn't move, the first thing I thought was that I was paralized. Then a few minutes latter a man ran toward me and then I tried to move again and I moved just enough to see my shorts covered in blood and at that point I thought I was going to die, scary thought huh. Then the guy that came up to me said to stay still and he told me I'll be alright, but after saying that he said " oh my god", and then I started to really freak out. Then the ambulence showed up with the fire department and then put me on a strecher and braced me all up and worked on my wounds for a good 10 minutes to get me ready for my nice $12,000 helicopter ride about 50 miles away, and believe it or not the ambulence to me to the cemetary for the helicoper to pick me up, funny joke huh, and on the way I felt blood start to run down my back and then I thought about If I was going to make it to the hostpital or not. when I got to the hospital my family and friends were then but by the time I got to the hospital I lost so much blood that I was losing feeling in my legs and I don't remember much about my friends and family visiting me before I went into my first surgery. when I woke up I felt like YOU KNOW WHAT, and I stayed in ICU(Emergency Care Unit) for 4 days on morfean(sorry I don't know how to spell it), and when I woke up there was a lot of hot chicks taking care of me and that was all good with me. After ICU I went into a regular hospital room, still on morfean and had a tube conected to my LOWER PLACE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. Then my parents told me what injuries I had and I had a compound fracture on my left thigh bone which they had to put a pin in and some extra bone from a doner( compound fracture is when your bone breaks out of your skin) 4 broken bones with pins in each one sticking out of the bottom of my foot which 2 months latter they pulled out with pliers, and I ripped my knee open and my cartlige in my knee was hanging half way out when the ambulence picked me up. I was so tore up that my physical therpy was to try to move my legs and then eventually it was to try to get out of my bed and since I lost so much blood I could barely stand up for 2 seconds without falling back down on my bed. I spent 3 crapy weeks in that hospital. Thanks ron for hitting me with your car. So three months later I started to walk on my own but not a long ways, I am now 7 months in and will never play any sports and will always have many pains in my knee, foot and leg, and guess what the guy that hit me walks away with minior car damages and I get maybe $10,000.
WHAT A CRAPY SUMMER.

wow.. that is horrible... and i do feel really really bad for you.. that is a horrible thing to have happend.. and i cannot imagine how terrible it is....
but honestly...
Why were you riding your mini bike on a road? and if you were... you should have really been paying a ton of extra attention for cars and others out there... people dont pay attention when they drive.

In our little town we can pretty much ride what we want and when we want because there are hardly any cops, and I didn't expect someone to come across the the lane and take me out, but one thing I didn't mention is that I did try to turn but I didn't make the turn fast enough, we were both going fast, thats why I hit the left side of his vehicle, I almost made it past him, but thats not the way it turned out. The thing is I am alive and nothing will stop me from riding.

Mmmmmm. Morphine.
That was a lousy hand to be dealt. I am glad you are alive and have your family to help you through it.
Many folks have been told "you will never be able to do this or that again" only to return to thier beloved sport months later. Your recovery has alot to do with your determination to recover.
Avoid setbacks and injuries, but work harder than they tell you, and you will recover more than they say you will.

Trust me, this is a true story and I got the two 5 inch scars and 4 inch pins to prove it, plus the long pin in my left leg. Well there isn't much of the minibike now but when the car hit me it totaled the entire left side of the frame, the rims were ripped out and the axles are still in, amazing huh. the shocks are bent almost a 90 degree angle, and the swing arm is smashed to one side, even after all that my LT250R K&N filter I had on it is still usable for my next minibike. Oh and it only hurt when I was laying on the ground all the way untill I started to lose feeling in my legs. Send any questions you have and I will be happy to answer them.
RIDE HARD AND RIDE FOREVER.

Glad to see your still alive and have the mental capacity to still tell your story..not that I liked to read what you went thru but rather that you didn't have any permanent head injuries that affected you.
I had a very similar situation occur to me only I was on a crotch rocket and went off the road to avoid being hit like you were. I however had the guard rail to contend with. It was not an easy recovery.
Wish you the best for your recovery.

I know your pain . Last August , I got hit by a dirtbike while riding my quad . He hit me from the right side and totally shattered my lower right leg . He was airborn on his KTM 125 at the time . My quad came to a dead stop ... he flew well over 20 feet away with his dirtbike . Natural instinct was to get up ( it threw me off the quad ) and as soon as I did that , I noticed that my leg was broken .
A guy I was riding with took off to go call the ambulance and then a few other guys I was riding with showed up and helped me out in staying calm . From about 4 -6 inches below my knee , my leg was bent out 90 degrees and I was able to stare at the bottom of my boot . We ended up tieing my belt above my knee to stop the bleeding because I was losing a ton of blood . I failed to mention that the bone had ripped through the skin . I knew it was bad , cuz I was able to feel the sharp pieces of bone through my pants .
The ambulance tried to get to me , but ended up getting stuck ... we were in an old sand pit . So 2 guys brought the medics in by quad ... then the firemen showed up in a 4x4 truck . They called in the Helicopter to get me out of the pit . The helicopter came ... dropped off 2 more air medics ... then took off because they needed to refuel the chopper . Whiel the chopper was gone , they loaded me onto a flat board and loaded me into the back of the 4x4 truck . The Helicopter arrived ... they hit me up with some heavy meds for the flight and brought me to the hospital where a team of surgeons rebuilt my leg .
It's been almost 6 months now since the accident ... I've been through 3 surgeries so far ... I have/had 4 pins , a rod and wire holding things in place . They recently removed 2 pins . I've been on crutches since the accident , unable to walk without them , becuase I'm missing 3 inches of bone ( they were picking chunks of bone out of the sand) . I was told this past Tuesday , that I can expect not to be able to walk without devices for atleast another 10 months and that I'll more than likely have a limp for the rest of my life once I'm able to walk .
You take your legs for granted ... but everything comes into perspective when you can't use them anymore . My goal though is to one day have the bone rebuilt strong enough , that I'll be able to ride again . The accident may have knocked me down ... but it ain't knocking me outta the sport !!!
Get well soon bro .

Wow you guys are very lucky! I have read these stories and no matter how bad each individual one is i feel for everybody. I love my sport and we all feel the same. We all live to race or ride. I hope you all have a good recovery and even though i don't know you i will keep you in my thoughts. My wreck seems so small compared but it still hurt pretty bad but i guess i am pretty lucky. Keep your heads up and try your hardest everyday to get back to where you were. Don't let anyone tell you you can't accomplish something. Your hearts have to be bigger than your injuries. Be Strong!

Thanks .... I've made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks . I've gone from not being able to put any weight on my leg , to being able to walk with one crutch ... and next week I'll try it without any crutch . I've been pushing myself to get better ... I don't want to be on crutches for the summer .
Here is the damage that was caused when the bone came through the skin .

Here is the x-ray a month after .

Wow thats a story!

Makes you think about other people on the road, never know what they are doing and if the will hit you. Good to see your getting better.

Man, thats dirty... When I was a kid I got hit by a car while I was riding my bike. somehow my left hand got shredded. I don't remember anything abou the Hospital, but apparently they had to completely reconstruct my left hand. Not much else, cracked femur but thats not much. Nasty scars on my fingers...
