I was wondering if I have a yfz manual is it is possible for someone with a decent amount of knowledge to change the crank? I want to put a stroker crank in my yfz and don't wanna pay someone a rediculus amoiunt of money in labor.

sure, just get a manual. Its really not that bad to do the crank. you do need a special tool to take off the flywheel though. once you get the cases apart the trans all stays on one side when you split the cases and the crank stays on the other side. all you have to do is heat the beating up a little and the tap on the crank with a rubber hammer and it will comeright out. as fas as putting it back in the bearing. we stick the crank in the freeser for about an hour and heat the bearing back up and it fall right in place.

I'd also recommend having a good torque wrench on hand and some engine assembly lube.
I'll move this to the YFZ section for you.

New cam bearings and timing chain while you're at it. Throught the new bearings in the freezer for a couple of hours before install and theyll slide right in.

It doesn't seem that bad. How hard is it to take the whole right side apart. I put a new shift shaft in this past year and theres a lot of gears. Is it hard to keep track of where everything goes and is it hard to take all of this apart and put it back together?

its simple, just take a few pis before you tear it apart. always seems worse thatn it really is.

what i did was got a cardboard box and put the gears on it as it came off with a nail and labelled underneith it with a number as to which one came off first and such, and it kept all the washers and stuff in order too for spacing, its really quiet easy, just go slow and step by step and take a few pictures along the way, all the gears have dots as to how to line them up, or they will have a notch on the splines so it can only go on one way, the cases pop apart, just keep the tranny together, it makes it alot easier then putting together all the forks and stuff, i had to take it all apart cuase i was switching out cases, it was lame but still not even that hard....make sure you get your crank balanced to your piston,

another tip ,
get some zip lock baggies and put all the related assemblys in there own seprate bags, and label them with a sharpie.
I use gallon, sandwich, and snack sized baggies and small trash bags for the almost completed motors.
the crank, and trans will fit in the gallon size,I separate and label everything.
It keeps all the parts clean and easy to find, and keeps the DAMN bugs out of the parts,I swear as soon as I start removing and inspecting or reassembling something, the fricking beetles and moths come from all over to inspect my work.

I was gonna put a stroker crank in my yfz and I found on sparks website a high compression piston for my big bore kit. Once I get the piston and crank I have to send them both out to get balanced?

you don't have too get them balanced, its a good idea though. you will normally have a lot more vibration if you dont get it done

Some people break motor mounts or worse. If its a big bore piston I would get the new crank and piston balanced by crankworks

Id say under $100 to get it balaned. But I've never sent a crank out myself to get it balanced so I dont know for sure.
