Alright guys im in sort of a mess here. i have an 04 yfz and when i rev it to high RPMs and let off on the motor decel it makes a buzzing sound in the motor. i drained the oil and there was some metal shavings in it. I dont the motor is going because it still pulls hard in every gear but i know its out of timing bad like it jumped some teeth but i think the cam chain has wore the chain guide down to the metal. Could that be where the buzzing and metal shavings are coming from?
DADDIO
If you have metal shavings in you motor, it is time to pull it out and tear it down to #1 find out where the shavings came from, and #2 get the rest of the shavings out.

It could be anything.

The timing chain guides are black plastic...doubtful it's the guides. Sounds like it's something else. I agree with Daddio's post.

could be the guides, under the black plastic/rubber there is some steel. or the rubber under the valve cover could have come off. either way its you got to pull it apart to fix it.

bad, bad things happen when your cams get out of time. bent valves and holy pistons come to mind.

i wouldnt hesitate to pull your engine appart.

the buzing could be your moter sucking air, i know my fci makes a little noise when i go

At this point I don't think the "buzzing" is the major issue............ It's the metal shavings in the motor that I would be concerned about.

Ive got the valve cover off and there is black plastic everywhere. Yeah i know the timeing is an issue but that will be taken care of. i think one of my chain guides came apart and the timing chain was rubbing the side of the head. ill post pics when i get a chance. ive gotta take the cams out to get the timing chain off, correct?

ya you got to pull the cams. you also have to bull the head to get one of the guides out. the other one you can pull the side cover and get out from the bottom of the motor. I would also replace the timing chain while you are in there.

Are the metal shavings magnetic. if they are its steel and not from the chain rubbing the cylinder, its plob from them rubbing the guides after the rubber was gone

ive already dumped the oil. ill have to look a bit closer. does anyone know how to get it back to stock timing???
climb-101
why do you wana go back to stock timing. what makes you think the timing is way off. From my experiance if the timing is off you cant hardly start the motor.

Someone posted in the powertrain section about a buzzing noise in their motor and its air in the oil lines. He had to bleed the air out and if you dont know how to do that then Click Here and look at post #8, my post, and read how to do it.
