Hey guys,
I run a Raptor 700 but came across a good deal so I just bought a '05 YFZ for cheap( i hope). I was checkin things out on it and notcied the oil was a little milky looking. The guy told me he just put new oil in it and also had just put new seals in the waterpump. he figured it was residual oil/water in the case and that was giving the new oil its milky look. He says he watched the coolant level and it wasn't leaking any. He said if the head gasket blows on YFZ's they will show external leaking and not so much internally?
Whats your thoughts on this? Should I fill it with coolant and mark the level and monitor its level and go run the thing? Or try to flush the milky oil completely, put in new oil and run it around some?
I hope I didn't get suckered into a bad motor.
Thanks to anyone that can advise me.

Could be a blown headgasket.
Run it a little bit and pull the plug and see what the plug looks like?

what am I looking for on the plug? Is there anything else I can check to tell if it is a blown headgasket (compression?)
it seems to run strong and will pull the front end up in third still

if its milky, change the oil, you dont want water running around, once you change the oil, check it every time you ride, if it gets milky again, i would assume you have a problem, if it doesnt get milky, it could be a one time thing, or condensation or something.
if it is a problem, it probably isnt a major one, it could be water pump seals, head gasket etc. nothing too horrible to deal with.

alright I'll give it a shot. Is there a way to give your case a good flush so I get all that milky crap out? what fluid would I use?I know it doesnt take much moisture to make your oil turn to crap.

i would just change the oil and run it, the only thing i would "flush" it with would be more oil, and that can be a pain and get rather expensive, plus, your just trying to test to see if you have a major issue, if it gets milky again quickly then the bit of water is the least of your worries.

It might be worth looking into the seals...if he installed them improperly or the impeller shaft if grooved (why the seals fail in the first place) that may cause coolant to mix with the oil. There's a pinned topic in the maintenance forum about the water pump seals.

no, as best I can tell it wa just left over water and milky oil from before he changed the pump seals. I changed oil and have been running it and monitoring water level and oil level/color and everything looks to be ok so far.
