i recently bought a 06 450. it came with a 13 tooth sprocket in front and stock on the rear. i am having a problem with it on the top end. when you are accelerating in 3rd 4th or 5th it acts like it is rapped out. i have a buddy that rides a 05 450 with stock gears and he pulls away. do you think it could be the clutch slipping?
help is appreciated |

the sprocket that you have on there is smaller than stock thats why your quad is slower. a stock sporcket is a 14 but i know a lot of guys go with a 15 for more speed. if you have a pipe, Fci intake, and the cam mod you can go to a 15 with out giving up to much low end.

you should be a little faster off the line then your friend.
The front sprocket is an easy way to get a faster accelerating quad but it takes off the top end. That is a common mod for many Raptor 660 and 700 owners use to hold their own in drag races. |

What do you mean by "rapped out"?
I'm curious because I'm also thinking that the high circuit(main) of your jetting may need to be addressed also. |

the problem with it hitting the rev limiter was the cluch going out. i found out the hard way why you don't put synthetic oil in a yfz. so now i need a clutch and a 14t sprocket!

I have had no problems running a full syn. oil in my YFZ...
Are you sure it was for wet clutches? That could be the key. If you use Amsoil for a car in your YFZ it'll cause your problem. But if you use its motorcycle blend it won't do anything to the clutch other then keep it lubed up. |
